On the 2^nd of February 2026, during an official ceremony attended by the Ambassador of Malta to the United Arab Emirates H.E Maria Calleja, the University of Malta and Sorbonne University of Abu Dhabi (SAUD) celebrated the recent signing of a joint agreement between the two universities, which promotes international mobility of Emirati and Maltese students by facilitating study exchanges. H.E Maria Calleja described the agreement as ‘’a testament to the deepening partnership between Malta and the United Arab Emirates—a relationship rooted in over five decades of diplomatic ties.’’

 During the event, Professor Charles Farrugia delivered a presentation about the archival sector in Malta and the new opportunities that the agreement with the University of Malta offers in the academic field. Professor Farrugia will be delivering a series of guest lectures at the SAUD.
