Signing MoU science and research cooperation

“This landmark agreement paves the way for groundbreaking collaboration in research and innovation,
strengthening ties between Malta and Poland” – Parliamentary Secretary Keith Azzopardi Tanti
Last week, a Memorandum of Understanding on Scientific Research and Innovation between the Maltese
Government and the Ministry of Science and Higher Education of the Republic of Poland was signed in Warsaw.
Parliamentary Secretary for Youth, Research and Innovation Keith Azzopardi Tanti signed on behalf of the
Maltese Government, whilst the Under-Secretary of State at the Ministry of Science and Higher Education
Professor Andrzej Szeptycki, signed the agreement on behalf of the Polish Government.
This is the first agreement between Malta and Poland that regulates the issues of scientific research and
innovation. The purpose is to encourage closer cooperation in the sector of scientific research and innovation, as well as to exchange best practice and share expertise.
Parliamentary Secretary Keith Azzopardi Tanti thanked the Embassy of Malta in Warsaw who was instrumental
in achieving this bilateral agreement after months of negotiations. He explained that the Memorandum gives
grounds for developing and implementing bilateral and multilateral projects and initiatives, conducting joint
research, and will foster the bilateral exchange of scientists and experts.
He continued that the Memorandum also covers the issues of sharing access to the research infrastructure, and to the scientific and technical equipment. Among the thematic areas of cooperation and development there are
marine and maritime technologies, digital technologies, health and well-being, sustainable use of resources, smart manufacturing, aviation, aerospace and space and cultural heritage.
Parliamentary Secretary Keith Azzopardi Tanti and Dr Marisa Farrugia, Ambassador of the Republic of Malta to
Poland, also held a bilateral meeting with the Under-Secretary of State Szeptycki.
