Embassy of Malta in the Republic of Poland

I wish to extend a warm welcome to all readers visiting the website of the Embassy of the Republic of Malta in Warsaw.

The Embassy of the Republic of Malta serves as the official representation of the government of Malta in Poland, and it functions as the primary channel of official communication between the government of Malta and that of Poland. The Embassy works to foster diplomatic relations, nurture diplomatic exchanges and negotiations between the sending country and the host nation while safeguarding the interests of its home country. The other key functions of the Embassy are to promote trade, tourism, gather and analyse political and economic information from the host country with a view to exploring potential investments, facilitate business connections, commercial exchanges, and bilateral trade in various sectors. The Embassy helps to offer information on investment opportunities, and support trade missions. It is the role of the Embassy to co-ordinate with the Polish authorities for the official delegations and to bring to fruition bilateral agreements or MoUs. In addition to the bilateral and trade relations, the Embassy deals with a range of other important matters that help to enhance the relations between the two countries and to strengthen the people- to-people contacts. These include Consular Services and assistance to the citizens of Malta living in or travelling through Poland or its neighbouring countries particularly at times of distress or war. Cultural and Public Diplomacy is another area that the Embassy is dedicated to. During the year the Embassy organises cultural events, exhibitions, educational and academic exchanges to promote Malta’s arts, culture, and heritage in Poland. The Embassy takes pride to initiate and sees through Twinning projects or agreements between Maltese cities or towns with similar Polish cities. The Embassy collectively with the Malta Tourism Authority representative office in Warsaw collaborate in the tourism sector. Tourism traffic between the two countries has increased significantly, particularly following the introduced air travel connections between Malta and Poland’s main airports in Gdansk, Poznan, Warsaw, Wroclaw, Katowice, and Krakow. On a regular basis the Embassy attends to official ceremonies and participates in several conferences, political briefings and consultation meetings while keeping its Foreign Ministry informed on developments.

Diplomatic relations between Malta and Poland were established on the 23rd of October 1971. Malta opened its Embassy in Warsaw in 2009. Since then, bilateral relations grew stronger, year after year, as clearly demonstrated by the ever-increasing list of official visits and exchanges taking place between the two countries, particularly following the accession of both countries to the European Union in 2004 and to Schengen in 2008.

Political consultations and exchanges are systematically undertaken at all levels of government including through visits at Head of States level, Head of Government Level, Foreign Ministers’ level, at the level of Speaker of the House of Representatives, other Ministerial levels and Senior Officials.
