Screening of the film “Carmen” (2022) as part of the EU Film Festival 2025 in Alexandria

20/05/2025

With the support of the Arts Council Malta and the Instituto Cervantes of Alexandria, on 20 May the Embassy organised a screening of the film “Carmen” (2022) directed by Valerie Buhagiar. The film was Malta’s entry for the 2025 edition of the EU Film Festival that is held annually in Alexandria.

In his opening remarks, Amb. Pace explained how this trip to Alexandria has become a tradition for the Embassy and added that the EU film festival is a tangible way of sharing the EU member states’ culture and traditions. This year’s chosen film illustrates Malta’s landscape and way of life of days gone by that is rarely captured on the international screen.

The film was introduced by Mr. Ahmed Nabil, an Egyptian filmmaker and podcaster, who also moderated a vibrant and well-attended Q & A session with the audience following the film’s screening.

The Embassy extends its thanks to the Arts Council Malta, without whose financial support this screening would not have been possible, production company Falkun Films, the Instituto Cervantes of Alexandria for hosting the screening and the Honorary Consulate of Malta (Alexandria) for their consistent support to the Embassy.
