President Van der Bellen also extended his congratulations on Malta’s recent Presidency of the Committee of Ministers of the Council of Europe, recognising the country’s leadership and its valuable contribution to fostering diplomatic engagement and strengthening multilateral cooperation within the Council of Europe and beyond.

In this context, they also discussed the importance of advancing gender equality and underscored the shared commitment of both countries to multilateralism and diplomacy, particularly as militarily neutral states united by common values in promoting peace, dialogue, and mutual understanding.

The official ceremony concluded with military honours by the Guard of Honour in the inner courtyard, during which the national anthems of Malta and Austria were performed by the military band.

The Ambassador was accompanied by Counsellor and Deputy Head of Mission, Ms Deborah Maria Borg.
