Malta and Austria have enjoyed excellent bilateral relations since 1966, even though contacts between the two countries and peoples go back centuries. Through its work, the Embassy fosters the existing good relations with Austria, while continuing to find new avenues of cooperation, both bilaterally as well as on the multilateral fora. As two neutral countries, Malta and Austria have several areas of cooperation in the multilateral field, including in the European Union and the United Nations.

As a strong believer in multilateralism, through its Permanent Mission in Vienna, Malta is engaged and active at the OSCE, the UN and the Other International Organizations in Vienna. Malta’s foreign policy continues to serve as a key instrument in cultivating and promoting amicable relationships grounded on respect for sovereignty, self-determination, and the rules-based international order, with a firm dedication to promoting dialogue, peace and stability, both regionally and globally. 

The Embassy of Malta also provides comprehensive consular services to Maltese citizens, ensuring their welfare and support while residing or travelling in Austria, in line with the strategic goals of Malta’s Foreign Policy Strategy.
