On 17 February 2026, Mr David Muscat presented Letters of Credence as the Head of the Representative Office of the Republic of Malta to the State of Palestine, to H.E. Dr. Mahmoud Abbas, President of the State of Palestine. The ceremony was held at the Al Muqata’a Presidential Palace in Ramallah.

Representative Muscat was escorted to the Presidential Palace and after inspection of the Guards of Honor and saluting the flag of Palestine, Representative Muscat  delivered a statement on the close ties of friendship between Malta and Palestine, and the readiness to enhance bilateral relations in the light of Malta’s official confirmation of the recognition of the State of Palestine on 22 September 2025.

Following the presentation of the Letters of Credence an exchange was held with His Excellency the President of the State of Palestine where the President expressed appreciation for Malta’s long standing support of Palestine and Malta’s recognition of the State of Palestine and welcomed the ongoing cooperation between Malta and Palestine.

Also present at the ceremony were high ranking representatives of the Office of the President including the Chief of the Presidential Protocol, the President’s Diplomatic Advisor, and the Commander of the Presidential Guards.
