Lectures on the 60th Anniversary of Malta-India Diplomatic Relations in the Indian cities of Thiruvananthapuram (Kerala) and Jaipur (Rajasthan)

On Wednesday 17 September 2025 the High Commissioner of the Republic of Malta to India H.E. Reuben Gauci travelled from New Delhi to the city of Thiruvananthapuram in the Indian State of Kerala where he addressed the University of Kerala on the subject of the 60th Anniversary of Malta-India Diplomatic Relations. In his address High Commissioner Gauci traced the history of the ties between the two countries from  their common colonial past under the British Empire to the attainment of Independence by both countries and the establishment of Diplomatic Relations 60 years ago. He observed how the foundations of friendship predated formal diplomatic ties, and went on to explain the steady evolution of relations over the past six decades. Mr. Gauci also emphasised the scope for expanding cooperation in education, culture and trade, while also situating Malta’s strategic role in the Mediterranean within the framework of India’s growing global engagements. In the same day, the Maltese High Commissioner also spoke to The Kerala State Higher Education Council about possibilities of co-operation between Malta and the Indian State of Kerala. During his visit to Kerala, High Commissioner Gauci also joined a number of EU Member State Ambassadors and Senior Diplomats who travelled from New Delhi to Thiruvananthapuram in order to participate in the Blue Tides, Kerala- European Union Blue Economy Conclave, which took place on 18-19 September 2025 and was organized by the Government of Kerala in collaboration with the EU Delegation in New Delhi.

On Monday 22 September 2025, the High Commissioner Reuben Gauci travelled from New Delhi to Jaipur in the Indian State of Rajasthan, where he was welcomed by the Jaipur National University. At this renowned University Mr Gauci  also delivered a lecture on the subject of the 60th Anniversary of Malta-India Diplomatic Relations. Addressing the students and faculty members, Mr. Gauci reflected on the rich history and growing partnership between the two nations, from the post-independence era to today’s expanding global collaborations. He emphasized the role of education, cultural understanding, and people-to-people connections in shaping a shared future.
