Malta High Commission in the Republic of India

India was one of the first countries to recognize the independence of Malta in 1964, and a year later, diplomatic relations between the two countries were established on the 10th of March 1965.

The High Commission of the Republic of Malta in New Delhi, India was founded in 2007. Since that time, it has worked and still works to enhance Malta’s presence in the subcontinent of India, which hosts the largest population on Earth. In a time when all the world is interested in India’s enormous potential, the High Commission of Malta is continuously busy nurturing Malta’s bilateral relations with this immense country along with the neighbouring countries of Nepal, the Maldives, Sri Lanka and Bangladesh.

Bilateral Agreements on various topics of mutual interests along with Bilateral Visits, are always in the pipeline. In the Multilateral sphere, India is punching hard, and it was a pleasure for Malta to become the 119th Country to sign the International Solar Alliance Multilateral Agreement in February 2024, which came to pass thanks to an initiative of India and France. The High Commission was, and is very busy with consular work, processing visa applications of esteemed Indian Nationals who wish to visit Malta for a plethora of reasons. Also assisting Maltese Nationals in India is a main priority for this Diplomatic and Consular Mission.

The High Commission of the Republic of Malta in new Delhi, India is also very active in Trade Diplomacy and Trade Promotion, along with Cultural Diplomacy and the promotion of the Maltese Islands in all aspects possible.
