Joseph Cuschieri presents Credentials as High Commissioner to Cyprus

On 29th November 2016, Mr Joseph Cuschieri presented his credentials to H.E. Nicos Anastasiades, President of the Republic of Cyprus, as High Commissioner of the Republic of Malta to the Republic of Cyprus with residence in Athens.

In his exchange with President Anastasiades, High Commissioner Cuschieri conveyed warm greetings on behalf of H.E. Marie Louise Coleiro Preca, President of the Republic of Malta and also recalled the excellent, longstanding and historic relations enjoyed by both countries as Mediterranean island states.

During the meeting that followed, they touched upon the high level exchanges that took place in the past year including His Excellency’s and that of Foreign Minister Kasoulides’ visit to Malta in November 2015 to attend the Commonwealth Heads of Government Summit.

The High Commissioner spoke about Malta’s preparations and priorities for the upcoming Presidency of EU Council in January 2017. High Commissioner Cuschieri and President Anastasiades exchanged views on Cypriot current affairs with a special focus on the talks on the re-unification of Cyprus. The High Commissioner said that a united Cyprus would be a symbol of peace and cooperation in a troubled region.
