The Embassy of Malta in Warsaw celebrated the Malta National Day with a reception which took place on the Palace on the Isle at the Royal Łazienki Museum on Tuesday 12th December 2023.

Attending the receptions were State Secretaries; a large number of resident Ambassadors and members of the Diplomatic Corps; high officials from various Ministries and the Polish Chamber of Commerce; leading cultural entities; members of the Academia and business community; leading tour operators and tourist-marketing outlets operating in Poland; Honorary Consuls of Malta in Poland as well as the Maltese Community. 

The Ambassador of Malta to Poland, H.E. Marisa Farrugia, delivered a brief address on the occasion. A brief historical background on Malta’s journey to the attainment of its statehood and sovereignty was illustrated.  She highlighted the strong bilateral relations existing between Poland and Malta which, for the last 52 years, have been going from strength to strength. She referred to the healthy platform of political consultations, economic cooperation and cultural interactions taking place between the two countries, at all levels, both bilaterally and on the multilateral front. 

Ambassador Farrugia underlined  Malta’s role and achievements in the United Nations Security Council in preserving peace, security and equity for all despite the challenges the world currently faces.  Malta’s recent appointment as OSCE 2024 Chairpersonship, for the first time, was mentioned noting how Malta will continue to serve as a channel of peace, facilitating further cooperation. 

She also touched upon the visit of former Foreign Minister Zbigniew Rau to Malta in April 2023 to inaugurate the new Polish Embassy in Malta and on the establishment of a Polish Centre for learning in September 2023. 

H.E. Marisa Farrugia outlined the significant increase in incoming tourism from Poland between January to October 2023, welcoming 130,957 visitors representing a 47% increase in arrivals over the same period in 2019.

Ambassador Farrugia extended an acknowledgement of sincere gratitude to the sponsors of the Malta National Day, namely: the Ministry for Foreign and European Affairs and Trade of the Republic of Malta, the Malta Tourism Authority and its Office in Warsaw; Delicata Winemaker Ltd., the Strand Palace Agencies Ltd., Consolidated Biscuits, Quick Turtle, FARSONS and tal-Furnar.  The guests were then invited to visit the temporary baroque art exhibition of Mattia Preti held at the same venue.
