A Presentation on the Digitisation of Archives by the Magna Żmien Foundation

Abu Dhabi, 27 October 2025 – The Embassy of Malta in the UAE in collaboration with the Magna Żmien Foundation (meaning “time machine”) [https://www.magnazmien.com/mt/] organised a presentation about the digitisation of archives at the Embassy of Malta in the UAE.

Mr Andrew Alamango and Mr Andrew Pace from Magna Żmien Foundation delivered an engaging presentation on digitizing contemporary history through voluntarily contributed photographic collections. Their presentation also explored the various types of archives collected, the digitisation process, ethical considerations and the role that artists, researchers, and creatives play in reinterpreting and reusing archival materials to give new life to historical narratives.

The audience included ICT and Archiving students from The British International School Abu Dhabi and Paris-Sorbonne University Abu Dhabi, together with the Deputy Head of Mission at the Embassy of Hungary.

The event was organised as part of the project entitled “Faces and Voices of Malta – A Mediterranean Odyssey”: a cultural project funded by the Cultural Diplomacy Fund of the Office of the Deputy Prime Minister and Minister for Foreign Affairs and Tourism.
