Mario Farrugia Borg

Mr. Mario Farrugia Borg was born in Malta on the 11th July 1970. Hailing from the village of Qormi, Mario completed tertiary education and started his professional career in the financial sector in 1990, working in foreign exchange and fund management until 2012.

Mr. Farrugia Borg was also active in the political scene in Malta for a number of years, having been elected and serving on the Qormi Local Council in 1997 and having contested the European Parliament elections held in Malta in 2014.

Mr. Farrugia Borg joined the Maltese civil service of the Republic of Malta in March of 2013. In this capacity, Mr. Farrugia Borg worked closely with the highest ranks of government and government entities from within the Prime Minister’s Private Secretariat.

Mr. Farrugia Borg held this position until 2018, when he joined Identity Malta Agency and was subsequently seconded to the Ministry for Foreign Affairs and Trade Promotion of the Republic of Malta.

Mr. Farrugia Borg was appointed as Consul General for the Republic of Malta in Victoria, Australia, on 17 January 2019.

Mr. Farrugia Borg relocated to Canberra after his appointment as High Commissioner of Malta to the Commonwealth of Australia and subsequently non-resident High Commissioner to New Zealand on 11 January 2021.
