Joseph Mario Sammut, son of Carmelo and Dorothy nee Darmanin born Toronto Canada 1964 and residing in Malta holding Maltese Nationality.

Kick started his academic career by first attaining a Diploma in Law and Administration (1986); Diploma Notary Public (1991) and a Degree Doctor of Laws (1993) at the University of Malta.

Throughout the years Joseph acquired a vast legal experience and served as legal counsel for various organizations both locally and abroad in the fields, but not limited to, infrastructural, planning, investment, financial, banking, transport, insurance, immigration, business, maritime, Corporate, Residency, real estate and legal public private matters.

Between 1998 and 2017 elected Member of the Maltese House of Representatives and was Shadow Minister for Housing; The Economy and self employed; Agriculture, Fisheries and Transport.

Dr Sammut is, amongst others, founder and exManaging Director of SMM Group which is comprised of SMM Advocates and SMM Consultancy Services Limited with affiliate offices in Saudi Arabia, UAE and Pakistan. Also, was appointed Member on the Planning and Environmental Board, Member of the Parliamentary Foreign Affairs Committee, Member of the Parliamentary Planning and Environment Committee, and Member of the Council of Europe. Dr Sammut also presided over the Malta Financial Services Tribunal and s Chairman of the Umpire Malta

Presently Dr Sammut is Ambassador for Malta in Tunisia and a Member of the Economic and Monetary Board within the Parliamentary Assembly of the Mediterranean (PAM).
