Embassy of Malta in the Republic of Tunisia

Following the establishment of diplomatic relations between the Republic of Malta and the Republic of Tunisia in 1967, the two countries have signed a number of bilateral agreements, which further enhanced co-operation between the two nations.

The Embassy of Malta in Tunisia is primarily tasked with strengthening diplomatic, political and economic relationships, and to expand its network for the promotion of tourism, cultural, educational and people-to-people ties between the two countries. It also provides a variety of consular services in the host country, to Maltese nationals and Tunisian nationals wishing to travel to Malta.

The main consular services offered by the Embassy are the issue of new or renewed passports, applications for Maltese citizenship by Tunisians who are married to a Maltese citizen or by Tunisians of a Maltese descent, authentication and legalisation of marriage and birth foreign certificates to be used in Malta or Maltese documents to be used in Tunisia, registration of marriages in Tunisia by Maltese citizen or who obtains a Maltese citizenship, registration of birth of Maltese citizens born in Tunisia or who obtain citizenship by registration or naturalisation, applications for Visas by Tunisians wishing to travel to Malta, and administration of Oaths and Affidavits.

The Embassy also assists persons having subsidiary protection issued by Malta who are stranded in Tunisia because of expired or lost documents, to persons who lost their passport and need to return to Malta urgently, and to Maltese citizens who have legal issues in Tunisia.

The Embassy also assists Maltese and Tunisian nationals or business organisations in either furthering their economic activities or facilitating when they are desirous in establishing economic relations and this by way of facilitating matters with an aim of achieving the desired goals.

Last but not least, the Embassy is also geared at facilitating or introducing Maltese talent within the Tunisian texture with a view of creating an opportunity for Maltese artists to demonstrate their talent and skills.

On the bilateral and multilateral level, the Embassy mainly acts as an interlocutor between Malta and Tunisia by preparing Note Verbale for onward transmission from Malta to Tunisia, and forwarding of Note Verbale to Malta received from the Tunisian side or other Embassies in Tunisia who are represented in Malta by the Embassy of Malta in Tunisia.

The Embassy also participates in several monthly meetings for Head of Missions and for Deputy Head of Missions of EU member states in Tunisia, organised by the EU Delegation to Tunisia.
