On the 4th February 2019, Carmelo better known as Charles Saliba presented his Credentials as the Ambassador of Malta to Libya to His Excellency Fayez Al Serraj, President of the Government of National Accord in Libya.

Prior to his diplomatic appointment, Ambassador Saliba dedicated twelve years to serving as the General Manager of the Bank of Valletta Representative Office in Libya. His career also includes valuable experience as a Financial Advisor within the Bank of Valletta International Private Banking and several years in the Financial Markets.

During his tenure in Libya, Ambassador Saliba fostered strong ties with the Maltese Embassy in Tripoli and actively contributed as a member of the Maltese Libyan Culture Group. Notably, his efforts led to securing new business opportunities for numerous Maltese entrepreneurs operating in Libya. Additionally, he played a pivotal role as an active member of the Libyan Maltese Chamber of Commerce.

Ambassador Saliba is a highly qualified professional, holding a diploma in banking (ACIB) and a BSc (Hon) degree in Financial Services from UMIST. He is fluent in Maltese, English, Arabic, and Italian, and his diverse skill set also includes a degree in Photography from the London University of Photography.

Beyond his professional endeavours, Ambassador Saliba possesses a passion for music and photography. He is a talented musician and the founder of the renowned band, Atlam, which holds the distinction of being the only Maltese-known band to have performed at the prestigious Cavern in Liverpool.

Ambassador Saliba was born on the 5th of October 1961, married to Abir and has two children, Clyde and Kirstie.
