Embassy of Malta in the Portuguese Republic

Malta and the Portuguese Republic established diplomatc relations on 14 November 1968. They take an active position in regional initiatives and organizations including the Arraiolos Group, OSCE, EUMED, EU, Union for the Mediterranean and OECD.

Malta’s links with Portugal, a European partner, go back a long time in history when Malta was under the Knights of St John. The role of the Maltese Embassy in Portugal is to maintain the diplomatic relations and enrich the continuous development and collaboration that exist between the two countries in political, economic, and cultural activities and to promote foreign strategies through international organizations. Malta is an excellent location for Investment, Trade, Education and Tourism. Malta and Portugal can continue to work together to strengthen the mutual benefits that have already been derived from these sectors.

A key purpose of the Embassy is to assist citizens of its home country living, working, or travelling overseas. At the Embassy diplomatic matters are handled in issuing visas and passports and provide consular services to the citizens living or traveling in the host country. Therefore, the Embassy serves as the contact point between visitors and the host nation.
