Diplomatic relations between Malta and the Kingdom of the Netherlands were established on 6^th October 1965. Both nations enjoy strong diplomatic ties. Despite their size, Malta and the Netherlands are global maritime nations with robust economies in various service-oriented sectors, including logistics, the aviation industry, financial services, education, and tourism.

Malta’s Mission in The Hague is accredited as the Embassy of the Republic of Malta to the Kingdom of the Netherlands and as Malta’s Permanent Representation to the Organisation for the Prohibition of Chemical Weapons (OPCW). Besides the OPCW, the Mission also covers a number of international organisations mainly in the area of international criminal justice, peace and security, including; The International Court of Justice (ICJ); The International Criminal Court (ICC); The Permanent Court of Arbitration (PCA); several Specialist Tribunals and Residual Mechanisms; and the Hague Conference on Private International Law (HCCH).
 
The Embassy’s bilateral work is geared towards enhancing diplomatic, political and economic ties between Malta and the Netherlands. This is mainly reflected in efforts to promote our shared international values and in seeking opportunities through which we can continue to enhance our strong bilateral ties for the benefit of our respective communities. The Embassy’s engagement goes beyond the political and diplomatic level. In striving to connect people through art and culture the Embassy is active within EUNIC Netherlands by promoting inter-cultural exchanges through the promotion of Maltese art and culture.

At the International level Malta and the Netherlands, share several common values which are further strengthened by our common EU objectives. Through our multilateral engagements our main objective is to pursue peace and security through the promotion of strict adherence to the principles of International Law and multilateral dialogue and active engagement within international organisations.

It is also our mission to ensure that that within our Embassy the Maltese community feels at home. To cater for the growing number of the Maltese community in The Netherlands, the Embassy provides regular consular service and assistance. Additionally, from time to time the Embassy also organises gatherings for all members of the Maltese Community.
