Ambassador Ronald Micallef is Malta’s Resident Ambassador in Ethiopia accredited to the African Union,  Djibouti and Rwanda.

Ambassador Micallef is a frequent guest speaker at various fora relating to EU, Malta and Africa relations. He formulated Malta’s Strategy for Africa (January 2020) which sets out Malta’s vision for a holistic and cross-Ministerial engagement with the African continent through development and trade in line with European Union and African Union priorities.

Ambassador Micallef has also held various Africa-related management and leadership posts with international and Maltese institutes and agencies including Malta Enterprise, Malta’s inward investment agency, and Trade Malta where he supported the re-orientation of Maltese business towards Sub-Saharan Africa. He has organised delegations and virtual trade platforms to Ethiopia, Ghana, Namibia and Rwanda.

Ambassador Micallef speaks Maltese, English and Italian. His hobbies and interests include the arts, writing, theatre and visual arts as well as history and African culture particularly connecting the Mediterranean and Africa. He has an abiding passion for the sea, especially the Mediterranean sea which connects Europe and Africa through trade, history and culture.
