Malta High Commission in the Republic of Ghana

Welcome to the website of the High Commission of the Republic of Malta in the Republic of Ghana.

The High Commission works to strengthen the longstanding relationship between Malta and Ghana and to advance cooperation across political, economic, development, educational, cultural and people-to-people fields.

Malta and Ghana established diplomatic relations in 1974. Since then, bilateral relations have developed through high-level engagement, institutional dialogue and practical cooperation. The Malta–Ghana Permanent Joint Commission provides an important framework for identifying shared priorities and advancing initiatives of mutual interest.

The High Commission represents Malta in Ghana and maintains regular engagement with the Government of Ghana, diplomatic partners, European Union counterparts, international organisations, civil society, educational institutions and the private sector. Through this engagement, it supports political dialogue, bilateral cooperation and closer relations between the governments and peoples of Malta and Ghana.

Malta regards Ghana as an important partner and values its contribution to democratic governance, stability, multilateral cooperation, African integration and trade liberalisation.

A central part of the Mission’s work is to develop practical partnerships between Maltese and Ghanaian institutions, public authorities, universities, schools, civil society organisations, businesses and communities. These partnerships may involve education and training, culture and the creative industries, science and technology, youth engagement, institutional capacity-building, development cooperation, trade and investment.

The High Commission promotes initiatives that are locally relevant, mutually beneficial and capable of delivering lasting value. It seeks to facilitate the exchange of knowledge, experience and expertise and to support cooperation that contributes to sustainable development, economic growth, innovation and stronger institutional and people-to-people links.

Ghana’s vibrant and dynamic economy offers significant opportunities for cooperation with Malta. The High Commission supports Maltese and Ghanaian stakeholders seeking to develop commercial, investment and institutional partnerships in areas of shared interest, while promoting Malta as a European and Mediterranean platform for wider international engagement.

Through its work, the High Commission seeks to build a substantive, visible and forward-looking partnership between Malta and Ghana, rooted in mutual respect, shared interests and practical cooperation.
