Presidential inauguration and Armistice Day Centenary Commemorations

The Ambassador of Malta to Ireland, H E Mr Leonard Sacco attended the inauguration of President Michael D Higgins on Sunday 11 November 2018. President Higgins was re-elected as President of Ireland in an election held on 26 October 2018. Following the inauguration, Ambassadors were presented to the President and Mrs Higgins.

In the morning, Ambassador Sacco also attended the Armistice Day Centenary Commemoration held at Glasnevin Cemetery. President Michael D Higgins addressed the gathering and led a wreath laying ceremony. Ambassador Sacco laid a wreath on behalf of the Government and the People of Malta.

Ambassador Sacco also participated in another Armistice Day Centenary Commemoration that took place in the afternoon at St Patrick’s Cathedral in Dublin, where 36,000 leaves were suspended in the nave to represent every Irish man and woman who perished in the Great War.”
