The Maltese Embassy in Moscow organised an activity, consisting of an online lecture on the Maltese language, to commemorate the European Day of Languages (EDL), organised by the European Union National Institutes for Culture (EUNIC) in Moscow, Russia, on Saturday, September 21.

The online lecture, with the theme of ‘The Secrets of the Maltese Language’, was delivered by linguist and translator Yana Vladislavovna Psaila, a Maltese national of Russian origin.  The lecture dealt with the brief introduction to the history of the Maltese language and literature, the translation of Maltese literary works into Russian, as well as the translation of Russian and Belorussian works into Maltese.  A short introductory speech was delivered in Maltese by Mr. Dennis Grech, Deputy Head of Mission and Consul at the Embassy of Malta.

Mr. Grech also participated in a speak-dating session where he communicated in Maltese with those members of the general public who wanted to learn more about Malta and the Maltese language.
