Malta–Ethiopia Dance Exchange: Moving Together Through Culture

08/10/2026

Dance became a meeting point between Malta and Ethiopia during a vibrant five-day cultural exchange, held from 21 to 25 September, led by the School of Performing Arts of the University of Malta. Bringing together Maltese and Ethiopian dancers, artists, academics and creative professionals, the programme explored the power of movement, music and performance to connect people and cultures.

From an intensive three-day dance workshop with 30 Ethiopian dancers to performances, seminars and encounters with leading cultural and academic institutions, the programme offered a rich exchange of ideas, experiences and artistic practices. Visits to Yared School of Music, Addis Ababa University and Fendika Cultural Center, alongside meetings with professionals across Ethiopia’s creative sector, opened new conversations around collaboration and artistic mobility.

The exchange concluded with a meeting at the Ministry of Culture and Sports of Ethiopia, reflecting on the week’s activities and looking towards new opportunities for cultural cooperation between Malta and Ethiopia.

The Malta–Ethiopia Dance Exchange was supported by the Cultural Diplomacy Fund of the Ministry for Foreign and European Affairs of the Republic of Malta.
