In her capacity as Chair of the UN’s Second Committee (Economic and Financial), HE Vanessa Frazier, Ambassador and Permanent Representative of Malta to the United Nations (NY) has been appointed to the Advisory Board of the United Nations Fund for International Partnerships (UNFIP)

The UNFIP was established in 1998 to serve as the interface between the United Nations Foundation and the United Nations system after entrepreneur and philanthropist Ted Turner channeled a historic $1 billion gift to support United Nations causes and activities.

The UN Foundation, a public US charity, has served as a vanguard for partnerships between the United Nations and the private sector that has inspired others. The Foundation collaborates with the United Nations to foster innovative partnerships, campaigns and initiatives that contribute to the achievement of the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development and the Paris Agreement under the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change to secure better and healthier lives for people across the globe.

The 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development includes, under Sustainable Development Goal goal 17, a call to revitalize the global partnership for sustainable development, including through multi-stakeholder partnerships that mobilize and share knowledge, expertise, technology and financial resources toward achievement of the Goals.

A Malta Government spokesperson stated that this appointment continued to demonstrate the UN Secretary General’s confidence in Ambassador Frazier, who currently also serves as co-Chair of the SIDS pathway having been appointed to this role in January 2019 and was recently unanimously elected as Chair of the UN’s Second Committee, one of the UN’s six main bodies. This appointment also highlights the role which Malta plays in the UN system and the respect it enjoys amongst its general membership.
