Commemorating 60th anniversary of Malta’s Independence in Algiers

On September 25, 2024, The Non-Resident Ambassador of Malta to Algeria, Mrs Philo Meli together with the Consul General resident in Algiers, Mr Duncan Psaila and the two locally engaged employees hosted a Malta Day reception to celebrate the 60th anniversary of Malta’s Independence. The event was held at the Hotel Sofitel, Algiers and was attended by around 200 guests including high level dignitaries, members of the diplomatic corps, senior officials from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and other Ministries, representatives of the Algerian Chamber of Commerce and other trade and investment related organisations, the business community, entrepreneurs doing business with Malta who also co-sponsored the event, many potential investors as well as many friends.
HE Mokhtar Didouche, Minister of Tourism and Craftsmanship and the Hon. Yasine Oualid Minister of Knowledge Economy, Start-ups and Micro-enterprises were the guests of honour. The Ambassador, Mrs Meli had a constructive discussion with the two Ministers with a view to enhance cooperation in these two important sectors for both countries.
Mrs Meli delivered a speech which highlighted the diplomatic and political relations between Malta and Algeria over the past years. She also focused on the present trade and investment exchanges and the yet untapped business opportunities in various sectors.
Maltese violinist Mr George Curmi, k/a il-Pusé and his band enchanted the guests with traditional Maltese songs and music.
