Embassy of Malta in the Republic of Türkiye

Diplomatic relations between the Republic of Malta and the Republic of Türkiye were established in 1967, shortly after Malta’s independence.   Since then, relations between the two countries have flourished and continue to grow from strength to strength.

Malta opened its Consulate General in Istanbul in 2009 whilst Türkiye opened its Embassy in Malta in the same year. In 2017, which happened to be the fiftieth anniversary since the establishment of diplomatic relations between the two countries, Malta opened its Embassy in Ankara.

The Malta Embassy in Ankara endeavours to strengthen and deepen Malta-Türkiye bilateral relations, through high level visits, the development of a network of bilateral agreements, as well as by means of educational and cultural activities aimed at promoting better respect and understanding and to foster people-to-people contacts.

The Embassy encourages and supports collaborative participation in the annual MCST-TUBITAK joint calls for research proposals as well as in EU programmes, such as Horizon Europe and in Mediterranean-specific programmes such as Interreg NEXT Mediterranean Sea Basin Programme.

In particular, the Embassy seeks to promote Malta’s strategic geographic location as a hub for investment, ICT, and pharma production, as well as a jurisdiction of choice for the provision of financial, shipping, consultancy, and transhipment services. It also promotes Malta as an ideal destination for tourism, tertiary education and for English language learning.

Together with its Consulate-General in Istanbul, the Embassy provides efficient and responsive consular assistance to Maltese nationals living or visiting Türkiye, as well as legalisation of documents of companies registered in Malta. In addition, the Consulate-General in Istanbul processes visa applications for short-term visits to Malta in an efficient and timely manner.

The Embassy invites you to engage with the Malta Embassy in Ankara, either directly or through this portal to discover how it could be of service to you. We also augur that via this portal you will appreciate Malta’s potential as an ideal location for investment, education and as a tourist destination with a distinctive character and culture.
