The Consul General Lisa Azzopardi

Lisa Azzopardi

Lisa Azzopardi took up post as Consul General at the Consulate General of Malta in Shanghai in December 2023. Her previous assignment was Deputy Head of Mission at the Embassy of Malta in the Federal Democratic Republic of Ethiopia, which is also accredited to the African Union. She previously served as Consul at the Embassy of Malta in the People’s Republic of China.

Ms. Azzopardi joined the Maltese diplomatic service in the rank of Second Secretary in 2019 within the Legal Unit of the Ministry for Foreign and European Affairs and Trade, where she represented Malta regularly at the Council of the EU Working Parties on Public International Law (COJUR), the International Criminal Court (COJUR-ICC), and annually at the Committee of Legal Advisers on Public International Law of the Council of Europe (CAHDI), and the United Nations Sixth Committee International Law Week. She was promoted to First Secretary in 2023.

Ms. Azzopardi read for a Bachelor of Laws and Legal Procurator from the University of Malta. Subsequently, she read for a bilingual (EN-FR) postgraduate Masters in European Politics and Governance Studies from the College of Europe, Bruges, Belgium (Simone Veil Promotion). Her thesis studied the external dimension of Migration Management Policy in the Mediterranean Sea focusing on EU cooperation with third countries. 

Ms. Azzopardi is fluent in Maltese, English, Spanish and French and her interests include world politics, travelling and learning languages.
