Duncan Psaila

Mr Duncan Psaila, First Secretary within the Ministry for Foreign and European Affairs and Trade of Malta, is currently the Consul for Malta in Algiers, having been appointed in this role on 22 October 2021

Mr Psaila previously served as Charge’ d’Affaires at the Embassy of Malta in Abu Dhabi from September 2017 to June 2020, and as Deputy Head of Mission at the said Embassy from June 2020 to September 2021. Mr Psaila joined the Ministry for Foreign Affairs of Malta in October 2017 where he worked on the Asia Desk within the Directorate General for Political Affairs.

Mr Psaila holds a Bachelor of Arts (Hons.) degree in International Relations from the University of Malta, and a Master of Arts Degree in Diplomatic Studies from the Mediterranean Academy of Diplomatic Studies within the University of Malta.

The priorities of the Consul in Algeria are to improve bilateral relations in the fields of business, trade, tourism and culture. While relations between Malta and Algeria have always been excellent, Mr Psaila believes that more can be done and strives to achieve this goal during his tenure in Algeria.

Mr Psaila, together with the Consulate staff, strives to provide efficient Consular services for both fellow Maltese and Algerian nationals. The Consul is always happy to meet persons who request such services and learn of their interest in Malta or Algeria.

Mr Psaila had considerable experience in consular matters during his posting in the United Arab Emirates, where a relatively large number of Maltese diaspora resides. This included emergency assistance as well as very regular updates of the Covid situation in both Malta and the United Emirates to the Maltese diaspora during the pandemic.

In his free time, Mr Psaila’s interests include travelling, reading, swimming, attending cultural events, as well as amateur photography.
