Malta and Spain share a historical legacy, a European identity, and a Mediterranean vision. Our two countries’ historic ties, forged when Malta was part of the Crown of Aragon, created intense interactions that can still be felt today. Diplomatic relations were officially established on 7 June 1968.

The Embassy of Malta in Spain plays a pivotal role in fostering bilateral relations between the two nations, focusing on political, economic, and cultural cooperation, also within the context of both countries being members of the European Union. Through diplomatic channels, the Embassy works to strengthen ties, facilitate trade and investment, and promote tourism and cultural exchanges.

Additionally, the Embassy provides consular services to Maltese citizens residing in or traveling to Spain. Citizenship and passport applications, registration of life events, administering oaths and certifying true copies of original Maltese documents are some of the services offered by the Embassy. Assistance and support are also provided during emergencies.
