Performance of Big Band Brothers as part of the 3rd edition of the EU Music Week in Riyadh
14/09/2026
With the support of the Arts Council Malta and the EU Delegation to the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia, on 14 September the Embassy took part in the 3rd edition of the EU Music Week with the participation of the Maltese band The Big Band Brothers. The band performed Ibħra (Seas), a cultural production that interprets diverse Maltese songs inspired by events at sea. The event took place at the Warehouse in the Jax District in Riyadh.
In his opening remarks, Ambassador Pace explained how the sea defined the Maltese identity and how the Big Band Brothers have taken some of Malta’s oldest and best-loved songs – the ones people still sing at village feasts and family gatherings – and wrapped them in music that would feel surprisingly familiar. The Ambassador thanked the band for introducing the Maltese language to the Saudi audience and was confident that Arabic speakers would understand most of the words.
The Embassy expresses its thanks to the EU Delegation, Arabia Pictures, Saudi Music Hub, and everyone at the Warehouse for making the night possible. Special thanks go to Mr. James Gauci, Deputy Head of Mission, and Ms. Erica Borg, Political Officer at the EU Delegation, who worked tirelessly to bring the first Maltese band to JAX.
