19/11/2025
As part of the celebrations marking the 60th anniversary of diplomatic relations between Malta and India, the High Commission of the Republic of Malta in New Delhi organised a series of cultural activities under the initiative Discover Malta: A Journey Through Art, Language and History, supported by the Cultural Diplomacy Fund of the Ministry for Foreign Affairs and Tourism.
The programme commenced on 30 October 2025 with a Maltese–Indian Fusion Cooking Session held at the Indian School of Hospitality in Gurgaon. Participants had the opportunity to explore Maltese and Indian culinary traditions, highlighting the shared cultural richness and Mediterranean–South Asian connections between the two countries.
On 4 November 2025, the High Commission hosted a screening of the Maltese film “Castillo” at the Instituto Cervantes in New Delhi. Castillo, directed by Abigail Mallia and inspired by Clare Azzopardi’s acclaimed novel, offers a moving exploration of love, identity and resilience against a Mediterranean backdrop. The screening drew an attentive audience and highlighted contemporary Maltese cinema.
Following the film, guests enjoyed refreshments featuring Maltese specialities, including Cisk Non-Alcoholic and Go&Fun, offering a taste of Maltese hospitality and complementing the cultural occasion.
The celebrations continued on 13 November 2025 with a full day of activities at Jesus Mary College, including a Maltese-Hindi Language Workshop, an Exhibition highlighting Malta’s history, art and UNESO-listed sites, and a Youth-Led Cultural Exchange Discussion where participants from Malta and India shared perspectives on culture, identity and bilateral ties.
Throughout the programme, the High Commission emphasised the importance of cultural engagement in strengthening relations between Malta and India, and expressed appreciation to all partners, participants and contributors who supported the initiative.
The High Commission of Malta in New Delhi remains committed to promoting Malta’s cultural heritage and to further enhancing people-to-people connections between the two countries.
