Entry into force of the Working Holiday Agreement between Malta and Japan

13/05/2026

The Working Holiday Agreement between Malta and Japan has officially entered into force.  Maltese and Japanese citizens between the ages of 18 and 30 will be able to apply for a special visa that allows them to stay in the host country for a maximum period of twelve months, combining a travel experience with the possibility of carrying out temporary work activities to support their stay.

The program aims to give young people more opportunities to appreciate the culture and lifestyle of the host country, promoting mutual understanding through a daily immersion experience. The Agreement represents an important step forward in strengthening exchanges between the younger generations of the two countries and will help to promote a more direct knowledge of their respective cultures and societies.

Applications are made through VFS Global in Japan.
