Algiers, Algeria – On 24 September 2025, the Consulate of the Republic of Malta in Algiers hosted a distinguished reception to mark Malta’s National Day at the Sofitel Hotel, Hamma Gardens, celebrating the 61st anniversary of Malta’s independence in the presence of esteemed guests and partners from across Algerian society.
The event was honoured by the presence of Her Excellency Houria Meddahi, Minister of Trade and Handicraft of Algeria, alongside members of the diplomatic corps, representatives of Algerian higher educational institutions, cultural organisations, and key figures from the business community, including Maltese companies operating in Algeria and Algerian firms engaged with Malta.
A key moment of the evening was a speech delivered by the Consul of Malta in Algiers, Ms Marsim Cassar who highlighted the deep-rooted friendship between the people of Malta and Algeria and affirmed the Maltese government’s commitment to continued engagement with Algeria in various sectors of mutual interest, including trade, education, culture and tourism management with a strong-focus on people-to-people connections.
“Malta views Algeria not just as a neighbour, but as a valued friend and partner in the Mediterranean. We are committed to nurturing this relationship through dialogue, cultural exchange, and meaningful cooperation,” the Consul stated.
The events offered guests a unique opportunity to engage in high-level networking in a warm, diplomatic setting.
During a bilateral meeting with the Consul, Minister Meddahi expressed appreciation for Malta’s active engagement in the region and underlined Algeria’s openness to expanding ties with Malta across various sectors, particularly those contributing to sustainable development and knowledge exchange in tourism management.
This year’s National Day celebration in Algiers not only honoured Malta’s path to independence but also served as a platform to reaffirm the strong and evolving relationship between Malta and Algeria — one that is built on trust, mutual respect, and a shared vision for the future.
