Hiroshima / Nagasaki – 6 & 9 August 2025

On 6 August 2025, H.E. André Spiteri, Ambassador of the Republic of Malta to Japan, attended the 80th Hiroshima Peace Memorial Ceremony, held at the Hiroshima Peace Memorial Park, to honour the victims of the atomic bombing of Hiroshima in 1945. The ceremony brought together dignitaries, survivors, and citizens in a solemn call for peace and the abolition of nuclear weapons.

On 9 August 2025, the Embassy’s Deputy Head of Mission, Mr. Liam Gauci, represented Malta at the Nagasaki Peace Memorial Ceremony, marking the 80th anniversary of the atomic bombing of Nagasaki. The event reflected on the tragic human cost of war and reaffirmed a shared commitment to a world free from nuclear arms.

Through its participation in these commemorations, Malta stands in solidarity with the people of Hiroshima and Nagasaki and renews its dedication to promoting peace, dialogue, and international cooperation.
